Editorial DirectorEmily brings 20 years of experience in investigative journalism, writing, and content strategy to Obvious Ventures.
Prior to joining Obvious, Emily was an editorial consultant working with CEOs and companies including Slack, Pinterest, and Adobe. She also worked in marketing at Facebook and Instagram. Before that, Emily spent more than a decade as a journalist, including four years writing stories for The New York Times about everything from immigration to life in the inner city.
Emily is the author of the critically-acclaimed, narrative nonfiction book “Humboldt.” She began her career at an English-language paper in Caracas, Venezuela.
Emily holds a master’s from Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism. She grew up in the countryside north of San Francisco, and has lived in six cities on three continents, but somehow the light and creativity of California always call her home.
