Designing the Obvious Space

Biz at Obvious. Photo by Ted Rheingold Today we had a planning meeting for a project to upgrade our office space. The whole Obvious team, with the help of an outside consultant, sat and had lunch and talked about our hopes in dreams in terms of an office.

We're still in the old Odeo office—actually, the new Odeo office, which we moved into in January. It's more space than we need a the moment (by a long shot), but we love the location (right off South Park). And the space has a ton of potential, which we didn't haven't really realized.

We're also liking the idea of creating an environment where other smart people, who don't work for Obvious, can come and hang out and work either all or part of the time.

What people want in an office is a very personal thing. It's kinda like designing your home with—in this case—seven other people. That is, if you also needed to work in your home.

Anyway, we're not looking to do a big construction project. But what we learned today is that we seem to be in agreement that we need more color, more coziness, more well-defined areas (as opposed to tons of space all running together), better lighting, some private space, and more art. Will post pictures here as it comes together.
